Acyclovir is an antiviral medication used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. It works by stopping the growth and spread of the virus, helping the immune system to control the infection.

This is used for:

• Treatment of herpes labialis (cold sores).

The following dosage can be followed:

• Apply a sufficient amount of the cream or ointment to cover the affected area, usually every 3 hours, six times daily, for 7 days.
• Begin treatment at the first sign of a cold sore.

In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms may include confusion, hallucinations, seizures, and urinating less than usual.

If a dose is missed, apply the medication as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule.

•Wash hands before and after application. •Apply a thin layer to the affected area, ensuring complete coverage. •Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. •Use a cotton swab or glove when applying to avoid contaminating the medication.

Do not use in case of:

• Allergic reaction to Acyclovir or valacyclovir.
• Kidney problems.

Side effects include:

• Localized irritation, redness, or itching at the application site.

Precautions include:

• Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Do not apply to mucous membranes or inside the mouth.
• Discontinue use if irritation persists.

No significant drug interactions reported with topical acyclovir.
