Description
Apixaban is an anticoagulant drug used to treat blood clotting; deep vein thrombosis, Apixaban is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. -

Uses
Apixaban is utilized for the following therapeutic indications:
- Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation
- Treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
- Reduction of the risk of recurrent DVT and PE
- Management of patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery
- Lowering the risk of thromboembolic events in patients with coronary artery disease
- Use in conjunction with other anticoagulants for enhanced efficacy in certain conditions

Dosage
Dose must be taken according to doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. The recommended dose is 5 mg orally twice daily. In patients with at least 2 of the following characteristics: 80 years of age, 60kg body weight, or serum creatinine 1.5 mg/dL, the recommended dose is 2.5mg orally two times a day. -
In case of Overdose
Overdose of Apixaban may result in high risks of bleeding. FDA-approved antidote for this medication is Andexanet alfa. -
Missed Dose
In case you missed any dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember but don't double your next dose to compensate for the missed one. -
How To Use
Should be taken orally as prescribed. -
When Not to Use
It should not be used in patients with active pathological bleeding and severe hypersensitivity reactions to Apixaban. -
Side Effects
Headache, swelling or joint pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, black stool, nosebleeds, bleeding gums. -
Precautions & Warnings
Apixaban should be discontinued at least 48 hours before surgery or invasive procedures to avoid the risks of unacceptable or clinically significant bleeding. Dosing adjustment is required for moderate renal impairment. -
Food Interaction
It can be taken with or without food, no significant food interactions are available. -

Store at 25°C. Protect from heat and moisture.
