Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is used to treat serious bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. This medicine could be used for shorter period of time, for 7-10 days only. It perform its action by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.
Dose must be taken according to doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Adult dose: IV/IM dose of 15mg/kg a day divided after every 8-12hours. Pediatric Dose: IV/IM dose of 15-22.5mg/kg a day divided after every 8hour.
In case of Overdose
Overdose resulting in amount of drug as 10 mcg/mL can result in ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
Missed Dose
In case you missed any dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember but don't double your next dose to compensate for the missed one.
How To Use
Its IV or IM use depends on product specification only. Use under the supervision of registered medical practitioner.
When Not to Use
Use of this drug is containdicated during pregannacy, do not use if patient is hypersenstivitve to this drug.
Caution is required during use of this drug in neonated and premature infants as it may cause renal immaturity that can result in prolongation of serum half-life of this drug. Should be used with caution in patients with renal dysfunction.
