Product Information

  • Description

Apixaban is a novel therapeutic option for preventing venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in patients who have undergone elective hip or knee arthroplasty, or who are seeking treatment for VTE stroke in the context of a positive troponin test and no prior strokes. Apixaban has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the risk of systemic embolism strokes and VTE in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. It is orally administered and metabolized in the liver, acting as a selective, orally active factor Xa inhibitor that regulates activator diffusion and inhibition of thrombin formation. By inhibiting the active site of factor Xa, apixaban is believed to prevent the formation of thrombin and thrombi, thus helping to prevent unwanted clots from forming. It's important to note that apixaban is a prescription medication and should not be used without medical supervision. It's always important to consult a healthcare professional before use to ensure appropriateness for a patient's specific medical conditions or allergies.

  • In case of Overdose

Apixaban is an anticoagulant, often referred to as a blood thinner, and is used to treat blood clots ( thrombosis). It is relatively safe, and an overdose is rarely fatal. However, an overdose may lead to severe bleeding disorders and other complications. If you take too much Apixaban, your doctor will probably recommend that you receive supportive care and have any underlying risk factors or comorbidities addressed. There are also treatments for active bleeding with fibrinolytic agents and/or platelet transfusions. Though, if the overdose occurred recently oral charcoal or nemadectomies can be used to reverse the effects of Apixaban if actioned within 6 hours of ingestion. These measures are not universally recommended and the benefits may not always outweigh the costs of adverse effects. Patients typically recover fully if adequate treatment is provided.

  • Missed Dose

Maintaining a regular medication schedule for drugs like Apixaban 5mg is important. If you forget or miss a dose, you should take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next scheduled dose. In this case, you should skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Overdosing can occur if you double the dose on the next scheduled time to make up for the missed dose, therefore, you should avoid doing this. If you're uncertain about what to do, it's best to consult a medical professional for guidance on how to proceed. This professional can help you navigate how to get back on track and avoid potential complications from a missed dose.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken orally, typically once or twice a day, depending on individual needs and the severity of the condition. It is important to follow the specific dosage instructions provided by a doctor, as taking the wrong dosage can render the medication less effective and may lead to adverse side effects.
