  • Description

The combined medication Neomycin [0.5 %w/v], Polymyxin B (Sulphate) [10,000 IU/ml], and Prednisolone and Prednisone [0.5 %w/v] Eye Syrup/Suspension exhibits a synergistic mechanism of action to combat eye infections and reduce inflammation. Neomycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, binds to bacterial ribosomes, disrupting protein synthesis and effectively targeting a broad spectrum of bacteria. Polymyxin B, a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic, disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell death, particularly against Gram-negative bacteria. Prednisolone and Prednisone, synthetic corticosteroids, exert their anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators, reducing leukocyte migration, and suppressing the immune response in the eye. Together, this combination therapy provides both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits for the treatment of ocular infections and inflammatory conditions.

    • Avoid high-fat meals as they may increase the absorption of prednisolone and prednisone, potentially affecting their therapeutic effect.
    • Avoid dairy products if you are lactose intolerant, as some eye drops may contain lactose.
    • Certain foods with a high vitamin A content, like liver, should be consumed in moderation to avoid potential interactions with prednisolone.
    • Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare professional, and ensure you inform them about any dietary concerns or restrictions you may have.
    • The medication is administered topically to the eyes, so the impact of food interactions is minimal, but it's best to maintain a balanced diet for overall health.
