  • Description

    Cetirizine is a second generation H1 Antagonist. This selectively inhibits the H1 receptors, which in turn inhibits the synthesis of histamine. It is also a mast cell stabilizer.

  • Uses

    Cetirizine is utilized for the following therapeutic indications:

    • Relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes
    • Management of chronic urticaria (hives) and associated itching
    • Treatment of allergic reactions to insect stings or bites

  • Dosage

    Take as per doctor's prescription

  • In case of Overdose

    Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include restlessness, nervousness or feeling drowsy.

  • Missed Dose

    In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. Skip it if it is nearly time for your next dose.

    Shake well before measuring the dose

    Do not use if:

    • you are pregnant and there are safer aternatives available.
    • you have to drive immediately after.

  • Side Effects

    Serious Side Effects include:

    • weakness and tremors
    • confusion
    • uneven heartbeat

    Common Side Effects are

    • dizziness or feeling drowsy
    • dry mouth (xerostomia)
    • cough
    • nausea and vomiting

  • Precautions & Warnings

    Practice caution in case of:

    • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
    • You have renal insufficiency
    • You have epilepsy

  • Drug Interactions

    Do not use in case you are already using:

    • Cetirizine-containing formulations (either topical or oral)
    • Other anti-histamines

  • Storage/Disposal

    Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keep away from children
