  • Description

Cilastatin in Cilastatin and Imipenem injection works by inhibiting the enzyme dehydropeptidase I (DHP-I), which is primarily found in the kidneys. By blocking DHP-I, Cilastatin prevents the metabolism of Imipenem, allowing it to maintain its antibacterial activity. Imipenem, a beta-lactam antibiotic, exerts its mechanism of action by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis. This disruption in cell wall formation leads to bacterial cell lysis and death.
