Cefotaxime is indicated to treat gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic organisms of susceptible strains causing:

• Pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Cervicitis
• Endometritis
• Urethritis
• Sepsis

Uncomplicated infections

Overdose symptoms may include weakness, cold feelings, pale skin, blue lips, or seizures (convulsions). Seek medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

You can get Cefotaxime through a quick injection into the vein or by a slow infusion, or you can also inject it into the muscle. The doctor will decide how much to give, how to give it, and how often based on how bad the infection is, what kind of germs are causing it, and how the patient is doing.

If someone is highly sensitive or allergic to cefotaxime, they should not use this medication at all. Also, if a person is allergic to penicillin or other cephalosporins, they should steer clear of cefotaxime too.

Common side effects include:

• Pain, swelling
• Rash, pruritis, anaphylaxis
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• Pseudomembranous Colitis
• Headache
• Elevation in liver enzymes
• Elevation in BUN and creatinine

• This medicine usually does not pose a threat during pregnancy or lactation. However, you should consult your doctor before using this medication.
