Product Information

  • Description

Valsartan works by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, which inhibits the adverse cardiovascular effects of angiotensin II, such as vasoconstriction, increased aldosterone secretion, and cardiac hypertrophy. By preventing these effects, valsartan promotes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone secretion, helps the heart pump more efficiently, and decreases blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide, on the other hand, works by inhibiting the sodium-chloride symporter in the distal convoluted renal tubule, which leads to increased excretion of sodium and chloride ions and reduced reabsorption of water. This increases urine volume and decreases blood pressure by reducing the venous return of blood to the heart. It also increases potassium excretion. Used together, these two medications work in complementary ways to help treat hypertension, lowering both diastolic and systolic blood pressure. They can also be used to treat edema and hyperglycemia in patients with hypertension.
