Chlorpheniramine helps relieve symptoms of cold and allergies by blocking the action of histamine. Ephedrine constricts blood vessels in nose and sinuses. It shrinks the swelling and drains fluids. Dextromethorphan decreases the activity in the part of the brain that causes coughing.
