Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that blocks beta 1 adrenoceptors (located mainly in the heart) resulting in low cardiac output. It reduces cardiac workload by decreasing contractility and the need for oxygen. It also decreases renin release by kidneys which is further responsible for reduction in blood pressure.

Bisoprolol is indicated for:

• mild to moderate hypertension
• heart failure
• atrial fibrillation
• angina pectoris

Overdose may lead to fatigue, hypotension, hypoglycemia, bronchospasms, and bradycardia. Slow heart rate may cause dizziness and trembling. Consult a doctor immediately in case of overdosing.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped.

Take this medicine with a full glass of water after meals or on an empty stomach

Contraindicated in case of:

• cardiogenic shock
• overt cardiac failure
• second or third degree AV block
• marked sinus bradycardia

Common side effects include:

• headaches
• diarrhea or constipation
• feeling dizzy or weak
• cold hands or feet
• nausea or vomiting

Your healthcare provider needs to know immediately if:

• you feel chest pain or discomfort after use
• dilated neck veins
• allergic reaction to it
• you become less alert than you are normally
• you have breathing problems

Drugs that can interact include:

• anti-arrythmics
• antihypertensives
• antipsychotics
• clonidine
• warfarin
• rifampin
