Danazol is a synthetic steroid similar to the natural hormone progesterone and is used to treat endometriosis and fibrocystic breast disease. It is also used as a part of fertility treatment in cases where the menstrual cycle needs to be regulated. It increases chances of getting pregnant. Danazol is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme 3-beta-hydroxyandrost-5-en-17-one dehydrogenase (3-HAD) and accordingly blocks the endogenous production of testosterone. Blocking testosterone synthesis leads to a decrease in testosterone levels resulting in therapeutic benefits in prostate cancer. Testosterone stimulates the growth of prostate cancer cells and the inhibition of testosterone production via Danazol leads to the retardation of prostate cancer growth.

Do not use in case of:

• When the patient is known to be allergic to Danazol or any of its active or inactive ingredients.
• If the patient has any condition that predisposes them to vascular thrombosis, bleeding, or pelvicalyceal system complications.
• In patients with a history of pulmonary embolism.
• In patients with active hepatic disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic enzymes.
