Dexpril 20mg Cap

Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2. This inhibition decreases the production of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever. It thus reduces inflammation and alleviates pain.

Piroxicam is used for:

• Pain Relief
• Inflammation
• Arthritis

Dexpril dosage for the indication of pain and inflammation, duration as needed:

• Adults - 20 mg once daily.
• Children - Not recommended.

Overdose can cause severe gastrointestinal bleeding or kidney damage. Seek immediate medical help.

If you miss a dose, consume as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next feeding, skip the missed dose. Do not double up on doses.

Usually taken once daily with food. Follow the prescribed dosage and duration.

Piroxicam should not be used if:

• Hypersensitivity
• Severe renal impairment
• Active gastrointestinal bleeding

Possible side effects of Piroxicam include:

• Gastrointestinal upset
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Rash
• Edema

The warnings and precautions for Piroxicam are:

• Patient with existing or family (in 1st-degree relatives) or personal history of severe affective disorder (e.g., previous steroid psychosis, depressive or manic-depressive illness)
• History of, or X-ray changes characteristic of TB; latent TB and/or tuberculin reactivity
• Known or suspected Strongyloides infection
• Diabetes mellitus or family history of diabetes
• Gastrointestinal disease (e.g., diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, active or latent peptic ulcer, fresh intestinal anastomoses, abscess or other pyogenic infection)
• Glaucoma or family history of glaucoma; cataracts; history of ocular herpes simplex
• Hypertension, CHF, recent MI (with rupture reported)
• Existing osteoporosis or at risk (e.g., postmenopausal women)
• Existing or history of seizure disorder
• Systemic sclerosis, Cushing's disease, previous steroid myopathy
• Myasthenia gravis, thromboembolic disorders, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, thyroid disease
• Patient subjected to unusual stress (e.g., surgery, trauma, intercurrent illness)
• Avoid exposure to patients with chickenpox or measles
• Avoid abrupt withdrawal during long-term therapy
• May mask signs of infection
• Use in patients with active TB must be restricted to fulminating or disseminated TB cases
• Renal and hepatic impairment (including cirrhosis)
• Children and elderly
• Pregnancy and lactation

The drug interactions with piroxicam include:

• Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) – Can increase bleeding risk.
• Other NSAIDs – Can enhance gastrointestinal bleeding risk.

For Piroxicam, food interactions that should be considered are:

• Taking with food may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Piroxicam should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it in its original container and out of reach of children. Dispose of expired or unused Piroxicam following local disposal regulations or use a drug take-back program.
