Valsartan blocks the substance in the body that is responsible for constriction of blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It reduces the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine, which helps lower the blood pressure.

Do not use this medication in the following circumstances:

• Concurrent use of ACE inhibitors.
• Previous reaction to any components of the formulation
• Pregnancy (especially second/third trimester)
• Severe renal impairment.

• Headaches, flu-like symptoms, runny or stuffy nose, cough or bronchitis
• Pain in your back, bones, or joints
• Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion
• Stomachache
• Diarrhea
• Swollen feet, ankles, legs, or hands (edema)
• Urinary tract infection (UTI)
