    Famila injection contains Medroxyprogesterone acetate, which behaves like normal progesterone hormone to prevent pregnancy. It prevents pregnancy by the following methods:

    • Prevents the egg from getting released from the ovaries
    • Alters the thickness of cervical fluid, making it difficult for the sperm to enter the womb
    • Prevents the thickening of the lining of the womb, making it difficult for the egg to grow in it.

    Famila injection is injected within 5 days from the start of periods. Single-dose of this medicine is efficient for at least 3 months.

    If you missed an injection after 3 months of previous injection you’re at a high risk of pregnancy. However, always use other methods of contraception like condoms.

    This injection is not for self-administration. Your doctor or a professional health care worker will inject this medicine that will be enough for 3 months. However, you’ll have to get injected again after 3 months to prevent pregnancy.

    Do not use this medication if you have:

    • Hypertension (systolic BP ≥140 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg)
    • Breast cancer
    • Known ischemic heart disease
    • Migraines with auras
    • Endometrial cancer
    • Cirrhosis (chronic liver disease)
    • Hepatocellular adenoma (benign liver lesion)
    • Malignant hepatoma (Primary liver cancer)
    • Do not use if you are pregnant
