Piroxicam, like other NSAIDs, acts through inhibition of tissue cycloxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to a decrease in pro-inflammatory prostaglandins (the potent mediators of pain and inflammation)

Dose may be determined by the doctor. Adjustment may be required for people with renal and hepatic insufficiency

Consult a doctor in case of overdosing. Symptoms of overdose include severe stomach pain, trouble breathing and extreme drowsiness

Take this medicine with a full glass of water. To prevent stomach upset, take with food, milk or an antacid. Do not lie for 10 minutes after taking this

Not to be used by patients with:

• Hepatic porphyrias
• Hematologic (blood) abnormalities.
• Allergy to NSAIDs
• Peptic ulcers
• Rectum inflammation

Common side effects include:

• Nausea, bloating or stomach pain
• Belching, heart burn and indigestion
• Decrease in urine output
• Tarry stools
• Pale skin
• Dizziness
• Headaches

To be used with caution because:

• This raises risk for heart attack and stroke
• This may cause bleeding in stomach and intestines as well as aggravate ulcers.

Provide complete medical history to the doctor before using this in case you are taking any prescription drugs. Do not use if you are using:

• Other NSAIDs
• Diuretics
• ACE inhibitors
• ARBs
• steroids
