    Ferric Carboxymaltose is an iron replacement product. This injection is used to treat iron deficiency anemia in:

    • Patients with Non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD)
    • Patients who cannot take iron supplements
    • Patients taking iron supplements that did not work well
    • Patients with heart failure to improve their ability to exercise
  • Dosage

    Follow these dosage instructions:

    • Adult Dosage

    FCM Injection is normally given in two doses of 750mg IV, separated by at least seven days. It is normally administered slowly over several minutes. It may also be mixed with a saline solution and infused into a vein over 15 minutes. The dosage should not exceed 1500mg. The dosage is determined by your medical history, weight, and your treatment response.

    Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    Ferric carboxymaltose injection comes as a solution (liquid) to be injected intravenously (into a vein) by a doctor or nurse in a medical office or hospital outpatient clinic. It is usually given once every 6 weeks for no more than a total of 5 doses. If your iron levels become low after you finish your treatment, your doctor may prescribe this medication again.

  • When Not to Use

    The use of this injection is contraindicated in cases of:

    • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of its excipients
    • Known serious hypersensitivity to other parenteral iron products
    • Anemia not attributed to iron deficiency, e.g. other microcytic anemia
  • Side Effects

    Common side effects include:

    • Headache
    • Dizziness
    • Sweating
    • Slow or fast heartbeat
    • Unusual exhaustion and weakness
    • Face, neck, chest, and arm redness
    • Vomiting and nausea
    • Itching
    • Altered taste
    • Injection site pain
  • Precautions & Warnings

    You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

    • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating, and there’s no safer alternative available.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have hypertension because this medication increases blood pressure.
