    This medicine is used to treat symptoms of depression. It contains Fluoxetine which works by increasing a chemical in the brain, serotonin, also known as the happy hormone.

    This medicine is used to treat the following:

    • Symptoms of Depression (where sedation is not required)
    • Bulimia Nervosa (an eating disorder)
    • Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors)
  • Dosage

    Take as per doctor's prescription. The dosage depends on what your doctor suggests to you, based on your age, weight, and immune system condition. Do not stop the medication abruptly:

    • Children and Adolescents (ages 8 to 18) Dosage

    The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily, in the morning. The dose may be increased gradually if necessary, under the supervision of a healthcare provider. The maximum recommended dose for children is typically 20 mg per day.

    • Adult Dosage

    The usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily, in the morning. The dose may be increased after several weeks if there is insufficient improvement.

    • Elderly Dosage

    For elderly individuals, a lower starting dose may be recommended. This is because older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of medications. The maximum recommended dose for the elderly is usually 60 mg per day.

  • In case of Overdose

    Seek emergency medical help if you think you have overdosed on Fluoxetine. Watch out for symptoms like tremors, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, drowsiness.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    Take the tablet whole with a glass of water. It is recommended to take the medicine same time every day.

  • When Not to Use

    You should not take this medication if:

    • You are allergic to it or any of the components of its formulation
    • You are currently or have recently taken the drug thioridazine
    • You are currently or have recently taken monoamine oxidase anti-depressants (e.g., phenelzine sulfate, moclobemide).

    This medication may pose the following side effects:

    • Nausea, dizziness, anxiety, nervousness
    • Headache
    • Anxiety
    • Insomnia, restlessness
    • Fatigue, weakness
    • Diarrhea, upset stomach, dry mouth, loss of appetite,
    • Excessive sweating
    • Decreased Libido

    In Children and Adolescents

    • Suicide-related behavior
    • Mania, hypomania
    • Epistaxis (bleeding of the nose)
    • Growth retardation
  • Precautions & Warnings

    You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

    • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, and there’s no safer alternative available.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have liver impairment, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, or epilepsy.
    • Use this medicine cautiously if you are elderly and withdraw immediately if adverse symptoms appear.
    • Do not drive after taking this medicine.

    This medication may interact with the following drugs:

    • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
    • Thioridazine, other anti-depressants, such as SSRIs
    • Anti-infectivescancer drugs, Asthma drugs, Drugs to treat nausea and vomiting, painkillers, diuretics, anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, dabigatran)
    • Drugs to treat diabetes, other drugs that affect serotonin, such as lithium, and linezolid, drugs containing tryptophan, St. Johns Wort, and triptans used to treat migraines
    • Certain medicines used to treat pain, such as fentanyl
    • Certain medicines used to treat cough, such as dextromethorphan
    • Sedatives such as benzodiazepines
  • Storage/Disposal

    Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
