Description
Dapagliflozin is a SGLT2 inhibitor. It shows its effects by inhibiting SGLT2. This drug works to reduce reabsorption of filtered glucose and in result it promotes urinary glucose excretion. Dapagliflozin also reduces sodium reabsorption and increases the delivery of sodium to the distal tubule. Dapagliflozin is indicated: an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. To reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and either established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors, to reduce the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of progression. -

Dosage
Dose must be taken according to doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. 5-10mg once daily. Assess renal function prior to Dapagliflozin therapy and then as clinically indicated. Assess volume as and, if necessary, correct volume depletion prior to initiation of Dapagliflozin. -
In case of Overdose
Consult your doctor in case of overdose as it may cause hypoglycemia, he should take all the possible supportive measures. -
Missed Dose
In case you missed any dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember, but don't double your next dose to compensate for the missed one. -

Take it orally according to your doctor’s advice. -
When Not to Use
Dapagliflozin is contraindicated in patients with History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Dapagliflozin, such as anaphylactic reactions or angioedema or to any excipient of the product, patients who are being treated for glycemic control without established CVD or pre CV risk factors with severe renal impairment, (eGFR less than 30mL/min/1.73m2 ) and patients on dialysis. -

Precautions & Warnings
Dapagliflozin can cause intravascular volume depletion which may sometimes manifest as symptomatic hypotension or acute transient changes in creatinine. It may cause acute kidney injury, some requiring hospitalization and dialysis, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus receiving SGL2 inhibitors, including Dapagliflozin. Patients with impaired renal function, elderly patients, or patients on loop diuretics may be at increased risk for volume depletion or hypotension. Before initiating dapagliflozin in patients with one or more of these characteristics, assess volume status and renal function. Monitor for signs and symptoms of hypotension, and renal function after initiating therapy. -
