    Ceftriaxone is used for multiple infections such as:

    • Infections of the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissue and urinary tract.
    • Bacterial infections like sinusitis, endocarditis, shigellosis, community acquired pneumonia
    • Syphilis and uncomplicated gonorrhea
    • Other infections of the bone and joints
  • Dosage

    Follow these instructions:

    • The dose to be administered is determined by the doctor depending on the type of infection, its severity, body weight, age and other determining factors.
    • The dose may be administered IV or IM.
    • The daily dose must not exceed 4g in case of other infections and 2g in case of skin and skin structure infections
  • In case of Overdose

    Overdosage reactions include seizures, encephalopathy, non-convulsive status epilepticus. In case of overdosage, drug concentration will not be reduced by dialysis. There is no specific antidote. Treatment is usually symptomatic. Seek medical help immediately in case of overdose.

  • Missed Dose

    Try not to miss a dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. Then continue your normal schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

  • How To Use

    May be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. Do not use diluents containing calcium with this, such as ringer's solution. Reconstitute ceftriaxone powder with the apropriate diluent for IM use. Diluent must be injected in vial and shaken vigorously before withdrawal into syringe. For IV use, inject via infusion over a period of 30 minutes.

  • When Not to Use

    Ceftriaxone is not recommended in case of:

    • Neonates
    • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.
    • solutions containing lidocaine as a solvent for ceftriaxone.

  • Drug Interactions

    Do not administer ceftriaxone in case you are already on:

    • Vitamin K antagonists
    • Calcium containing formulations
    • Aceclofenac
    • Blood thinners
  • Storage/Disposal

    Ceftriaxone for injection sterile powder must be stored at 20-25 degree Celsius and must be protected from light. After reconstitution, protection from normal light isn't necessary. Keep away from children
