    Topiramate blocks neuronal excitability by increasing GABA activity and inhibiting glutamate activity, preventing seizures and migraines. Additionally, it blocks the voltage-dependent sodium channels, further blocking seizure activity.

    Topiramate is a medication used to manage and treat epilepsy and migraine. In addition, Topiramate has approval for chronic weight management for individuals with a body mass index over 30.

  • Dosage

    Follow these dosage instructions:

    • Adult Dosage

    400 mg orally daily in 2 divided doses.

    • Child Dosage

    25 mg orally once a day in the evening; If tolerated, increase to 25 mg orally twice a day

  • In case of Overdose

    Overdose symptoms include decreased awareness or responsiveness, dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position, severe sleepiness, unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness. Seek medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medication.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    The tablets, sprinkle capsules, and solution are usually taken with or without food once or twice a day. Take topiramate at around the same time(s) every day.

    Don’t take this medication if you ever had:

    • An allergic reaction to topiramate or any other medicine.
    • Kidney problems, especially kidney stones.
    • A blood disorder called acute porphyria.
    • A history of blood metabolic acidosis, where the body produces too much acid or cannot remove it properly.
