It is a direct-acting smooth muscle relaxant used as a peripheral vasodilator, causing veins and arteries to expand, which lowers blood pressure.

Anti-Hypertensive

Some uses for the medicine with the name Hydralazine Hydrochloride:

• Treating hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Suppressing hypertensive emergencies
• Treating severe chronic hypertension cases that cannot be managed with other drugs
• Treating orthostatic hypotension
• Treating hypertensive crises or hypertensive emergencies during pregnancy
• Reducing complications in hypertensive patients with coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, or chronic kidney disease

In case of an overdose, these symptoms may be heightened, and difficulty breathing or swallowing may be present. A medical emergency may be incurred if the patient is showing severe symptoms of overdose.

Do not use in case of:

• They have an allergy to Hydralazine or any of the other ingredients in the medication.
• They are taking other medications that could interact with Hydralazine and cause adverse effects. Examples of these drugs include methyldopa and lithium.

Side effects include:

• Nausea
• Headaches
• Low blood pressure (hypotension)
• Rash
• Sweating

Precautions include:

• Do not use this medication if you are allergic to hydralazine or any of the other ingredients listed on the medication packet.
• Inform your healthcare provider of any medical conditions you have and of all the medications you are currently taking, including any blood pressure medications, antibiotics, and antidepressants. You may require dose adjustments or frequent blood pressure monitoring if you have certain medical conditions, such as liver or kidney disease.
• This drug can cause low blood pressure and an unsafe drop in blood pressure while standing may occur, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position. As a result, get up slowly after taking this medication and ensure you stand for a moment before walking around. Avoid standing for long periods without sitting down periodically to equalize the blood pressure.
