    Hydrocortisone is an adrenocortical steroid that inhibits the accumulation of inflammatory cells at inflammation sites, phagocytosis, lysosomal enzyme release and synthesis, and release of mediators of inflammation.

    This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as:

    • Insect bites
    • Poison oak/ivy
    • Eczema
    • Dermatitis
    • Allergies
    • Rash
    • Itching of the outer female genitals
    • Anal itching
    • Hemorrhoids (pain, swelling, bleeding, itchiness)

    Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions.

    Follow these dosage instructions:

    • Child 12 years and over and adult

    • Child one month to 11 years

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    Hydrocortisone injection comes as powder to be mixed with liquid to be injected intramuscularly (into a muscle) or intravenously (into a vein). Your dosing schedule will depend on your condition and on how you respond to treatment.

  • When Not to Use

    Hydrocortisone is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the product or any of its constituent ingredients, patients with tuberculosis or fungal infection and/or herpes infections of the eyes, lips, or genitals.

    Side effects may include:

    • Feeling dizzy, weak, or tired
    • Headaches
    • Muscle ache
    • Indigestion or feeling sick (nausea)
    • Diarrhoea
    • Swollen ankles
  • Precautions & Warnings

    Before using this medicine, make sure to follow these precautions:

    • In case of a systemic infection, only use the medicine if the patient is already receiving antimicrobial treatment.
    • Avoid using the medicine for an extended period in patients with Peptic ulcer, Diabetes mellitus (diabetes), Cirrhosis
    • It is safe to use this medicine during pregnancy.
    • It is safe to use this medicine while breastfeeding.
  • Drug Interactions

    Some products that may interact with this drug are:

    • Aldesleukin
    • Mifepristone
    • Other drugs that can cause bleeding/bruising (such as antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel, NSAIDs like ibuprofen/naproxen, and "blood thinners" like warfarin/dabigatran).

    Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding when used with this medication.

    Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
