  • Description

The hormone insulin is produced in the pancreas, and its primary function is to regulate blood sugar levels in the body. When we consume food, it is broken down into glucose molecules, which are absorbed into the bloodstream and used by the body as an energy source. In people with diabetes, however, the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or can't use it as effectively as it should. This leads to a condition known as insulin resistance, where glucose remains in the bloodstream instead of reaching the body's cells, resulting in high blood sugar levels. To address this, Human Insulin, a laboratory-made insulin (recombinant DNA origin), is used to improve blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus. This insulin is engineered to be identical to the insulin produced by the human pancreas. When introduced into the body, Human Insulin binds to receptors on cells, marking them for absorption and facilitating the use of glucose from the blood. By introducing Human Insulin, it mimics the action of naturally produced insulin and promotes the uptake of glucose into cells, thereby lowering blood sugar levels and preventing complications arising from high blood sugar.

    • Hypoglycemia may occur in case of overdose, and glucagon injection may be required if the patient cannot take in any source of sugar.
    • Hypoglycemia can also occur due to too frequent injections or incorrect dosage, particularly in young children, renal failure, or elderly patients.
  • In case of Overdose

An overdose of human insulin RDNA 100IU/ml can lead to hypoglycemia and requires immediate medical attention. If a patient is suspected of experiencing this, they should be monitored closely for symptoms such as sweating, tremors, confusion, dizziness, or unconsciousness. Should any symptoms arise, it is essential to treat them immediately with oral glucose, or if they're unable to swallow, intravenous glucose is an option. Subcutaneous insulin administration should be temporarily halted, and other hypoglycemia treatments may be prescribed by a medical professional. The patient's family and friends should be educated on the signs of hypoglycemia and warned to seek immediate medical attention if such symptoms occur. Furthermore, it is crucial to understand that an overdose of insulin can lead to too low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) and require immediate medical attention. Symptoms of low blood sugar may occur even with regular use of insulin. It is essential to have a source of sugar or candy accessible at all times to help prevent hypoglycemia and always consult a medical professional for guidance on proper management of diabetes and insulin intake. If emergency symptoms occur, it is advised to call 911 or immediately go to the nearest emergency room. Please note, immediate medical attention is necessary for severe hypoglycemia.

If you are unsure about how to proceed, it is recommended to consult with your physician or nurse practitioner for appropriate advice and guidance on when and how much to take moving forward.

  • How To Use

Prior to using Human Insulin rDNA 100IU/ml, it is crucial to understand the product information and proper injection techniques to ensure its safe and effective use. This involves reading the Patient Information Leaflet and following the instructions for proper use, paying attention to the safety information and correct injection techniques. In preparation for the injection, you should first examine the insulin bottle carefully for any particles or discoloration. If anything appears wrong, dispose of the insulin properly. You should also ensure the needle is not bent and is the correct size for the injection. It is essential to never use a reused or incorrect needle. The dosage of insulin depends on individual requirements, which are usually determined by a healthcare provider. These dosage guidelines are often based on factors such as glucose levels, age, weight, and meal patterns. Selecting a suitable injection site is also important, which should be rotated regularly between the thigh, stomach, buttocks, or the back of the upper arm. Each subsequent injection site should be at least one inch away from the previous spot. If using a prefilled insulin pen, it should be refrigerated before use, and caution should be taken to avoid excessive heat. The needle cover should be removed using the needle remover tool or by firmly holding the pen. It is never recommended to reuse or share needles. Finally, when administering the insulin injection, stabilize the insulin bottle or pen by tucking it into your palm. Pinch the skin at the injection site, swiftly insert the needle at a 90-degree angle, and then remove the needle. Applying gentle pressure to the injection site with sterile gauze or tissue prevents leakage and bruising.
