  • Description

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. It interferes with the peptidyl transferase activity, preventing the addition of new amino acids to the growing peptide chain. This action leads to the disruption of bacterial cell wall synthesis and ultimately results in bacterial cell death. Tetrahydrozoline, on the other hand, is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a vasoconstrictor. It primarily exerts its effect by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the blood vessels of the eye, causing constriction of the blood vessels and reducing redness and inflammation. This mechanism helps to alleviate ocular symptoms by decreasing blood flow to the site of irritation.
