Betaine transfers a methyl group via the enzyme betaine homocysteine methyl transferase (BHMT), converting homocysteine back into methionine and dimethylglycine (DMG). In patients with homocystinuria, betaine reduces homocysteine levels and improves health outcomes. Betaine is rapidly absorbed and distributed.

• elevated homocysteine levels
• hypokalemia
• "tired blood" disease

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.
