Description
This medicine works by stopping the production of certain chemicals in the body that causes swelling, pain, and fever. Mefenamic Acid performs its actions by binding to the prostaglandin synthetase receptors; COX-1 and COX-2, and inhibiting the action of prostaglandin synthetase. As these receptors play a role as a major mediator of inflammation and play a role for prostanoid signaling in activity-dependent plasticity as well, so the symptoms of pain are temporarily reduced and inflammation is also treated. -

Uses
Fever, Bursitis, Muscle Aches, Arthritic Pain, Traumatic and Postoperative Pain, Dysmenorrhea, Low Back Pain, Headache & Toothache. -
Dosage
Dose must be taken according to the doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Dose for adults and children of age above 14 years: For menstrual cramps: At first, 500mg, then 250mg every 6 hours orally, as needed, for 2 to 3 days. For mild to moderate pain: At first, 500mg, then 250mg every 6 hours orally, as needed, for not more than 1 week. -
In case of Overdose
Contact your doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms may include rashes on the skin, confusion, pain in the chest, blurred vision etc. Immediate medical attention is needed if an overdose is confirmed. -
Missed Dose
In case you missed any dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember, but don't double your next dose to compensate for the missed one. -
How To Use
Do not take in larger or smaller quantities than recommended. The dosage and the duration of use of this medicine should be kept as low as possible. This medicine should be taken with food. An adequate amount of water should be consumed while taking this medicine. -
When Not to Use
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Mefenamic Acid or other medicines of the NSAID class, if you have an allergic condition like asthma, urticaria, or any other allergic condition, if you have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery recently, for use in patients with severe liver diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition, for use in patients with severe kidney diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition, for use in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding since it may worsen the patient's condition. -
Side Effects
Use of this medicine for a long duration may cause fluid retention and heart failure. It should be administered with caution in patients suffering from a disease of the heart or blood vessels or patients exposed to the risk factors. -
Precautions & Warnings
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless potential benefits outweigh the risks associated. Contact your doctor before using this medicine. It should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy. Use of this medicine in breastfeeding women is not recommended as the amount passing through the milk and its effect on the infant is unknown. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative in such cases. -
Food Interaction
If stomach upset occurs, then take this medication with milk or food. -
