Nalbuphine is an opioid agonist-antagonist used to treat pain, for pre and postoperative analgesia, and for analgesia in labor and delivery. A narcotic used as a pain medication. It appears to be an agonist at kappa opioid receptors and an antagonist or partial agonist at mu opioid receptors.

Opioid agonist-antagonists

This medicine is used to treat moderate to severe pain in these conditions:

• Before or after surgery
• During childbirth
• With General Anesthesia before an operation

Follow these dosage instructions:

• Adult Dosage

Initial dosage, 10 mg IV, IM, or subcutaneous every 3 to 6 hours as needed. Your doctor will determine the length of the treatment and may adjust the dose after some time.

• Child Dosage

The dosage for the child is strictly recommended by the doctor.

Symptoms of an overdose include extreme dizziness or weakness, slow heartbeat or breathing, seizures, trouble breathing, and cold, clammy skin. Call your doctor right away if you notice these symptoms.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Nalbuphine injection comes as a solution (liquid) to inject subcutaneously (under the skin), intravenously (into a vein), or intramuscularly (into a muscle). Nalbuphine injection is administered by a doctor or nurse. It is usually injected once every 3 to 6 hours as needed.

You should not be treated with nalbuphine if you are allergic to it, or if you have • Severe asthma or breathing problems • Stomach or bowel obstruction (including paralytic ileus)

Common side effects include:

• Sedation
• Sweating
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth

You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

• Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating, and there’s no safer alternative available.
• Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
• Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
• Do not drive after using this medication as it can induce drowsiness.
• Don't use alcohol while using this medication.

Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
