  • Description

Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate combination in this tablet works by promoting the formation of a protective barrier on the mucosal surface of the gastrointestinal tract. Sodium Alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a viscous gel, which floats on top of the stomach contents, creating a physical barrier that prevents acid reflux. This gel also helps to prevent the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus. Potassium Bicarbonate, on the other hand, is a buffering agent that helps to neutralize stomach acid. It increases the pH of the stomach contents, reducing the acidity and providing relief from symptoms associated with acid reflux and gastrointestinal distress.

    • Limit or avoid dairy products, especially milk, as the calcium in milk can interact with sodium alginate, reducing its effectiveness.
    • Avoid consuming large amounts of high-fiber foods, such as whole grains, legumes, and certain fruits and vegetables, as fiber can affect the absorption of medications.

    • Avoid carbonated beverages as they can contribute to gas and bloating, which the medication aims to alleviate.
    • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be consumed with caution, as they can affect the absorption and metabolism of various medications, although their direct interaction with sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate is not well established.
    • Spicy and acidic foods should be limited, as they can irritate the stomach and potentially reduce the effectiveness of the medication in managing acid-related symptoms.
    • Always ensure you are well-hydrated when taking this medication to aid in the dissolution and effectiveness of the tablet.
  • Storage/Disposal

Sodium Alginate 500mg and Potassium Bicarbonate 100mg tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
