Description
This medicine works by stopping the production of certain chemicals in the body that causes swelling, pain, and fever. Mefenamic Acid performs its actions by binding to the prostaglandin synthetase receptors; COX-1 and COX-2, and inhibiting the action of prostaglandin synthetase. As these receptors play a role as a major mediator of inflammation and play a role for prostanoid signaling in activity-dependent plasticity as well, so the symptoms of pain are temporarily reduced and inflammation is also treated.

Dosage
Dose must be taken according to the doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Dose for adults and children of age above 14 years: For menstrual cramps: At first, 500mg, then 250mg every 6 hours orally, as needed, for 2 to 3 days. For mild to moderate pain: At first, 500mg, then 250mg every 6 hours orally, as needed, for not more than 1 week.

When Not to Use
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Mefenamic Acid or other medicines of the NSAID class, if you have an allergic condition like asthma, urticaria, or any other allergic condition, if you have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery recently, for use in patients with severe liver diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition, for use in patients with severe kidney diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition, for use in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Side Effects
