Meronem (1g) Injection/Infusion

This medicine is used to treat several kinds of bacterial infections. It contains Meropenem, an antibiotic, which works by binding with the protein wall of the bacteria, inhibiting growth and destroying the bacteria.

This medicine is used to treat several kinds of bacterial infections, such as:

• Intra-abdominal infections (infections occurring in the abdominal cavity e.g appendicitis or fecal peritonitis)
• Gynecological infections (infections in the vagina or genital tract)
• Skin infections
• Soft tissue infections
• Meningitis (inflammation of the layer covering the brain)

Meropenem injection comes in a powder form that must be mixed with a liquid. It is administered intravenously (into a vein) as a powder. Usually, it's administered every eight hours. The course of treatment is determined by your overall health, the nature of the infection, and how well you react to the medicine. You will be advised by your doctor on how long to use meropenem injection. Your doctor may decide to move you to another antibiotic that you can take orally to finish your treatment once your condition gets better.

Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Usually, one injection is administered every eight hours. A medical practitioner administers the injection into the vein. Take the right dosage as per recommended by your doctor. Take the medication regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.

The contraindications for this medication are as follows:

• Meropenem is contraindicated for use in patients with meropenem hypersensitivity.
• Meropenem should be used with extreme caution in patients with CNS (central nervous system) disorders.

Common side effects include:

• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rash
• Headache
• Inflammation
• Sepsis
• Bleeding

You should understand these cautions before taking the medicine:

• Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.

• Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
• Don’t drink alcohol and don’t drive while taking this medication.

Meropenem has mild interactions with the following other drugs:

• Balsalazide,
• Biotin,
• Pantothenic acid,
• Pyridoxine,
• Pyridoxine (Antidote), and.
• Thiamine

Meropenem has no documented food interactions that affect its efficacy or safety. There are no specific dietary restrictions or food-related effects on its absorption. It is important to use meropenem according to your healthcare provider's instructions to ensure optimal results.

Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
