  • Description

    Montelukast sodium is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene CysLT1 receptor, stimulation of this receptor by circulating leukotrienes is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of asthma. Montelukast sodium suppresses both early and late bronchoconstrictor responses to inhaled antigens or irritants, but is not suitable for the management of acute attacks of asthma.

  • Uses

    For prophylaxis and chronic treatment of Asthma. The prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Allergic Rhinitis, Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis, Perennial Allergic Rhinitis.
  • Dosage

    Dose must be taken according to the doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Adults and children 15 years of age and older: 10mg once a day in the evening. Dosage for pediatric patients of asthma or allergic rhinitis: 6-14 years: 5mg chewable tablet once daily. 2 months to 5 years: 4mg chewable tablet or one sachet of 4 mg of pediatric granules daily. 1 to <2 years: One sachet of 4 mg oral granules once in a day. Granules may either be swallowed whole or mixed with a spoon full of soft food, granules are not to be dissolved in liquid. After opening the sachet, a full dose must be administered within 15 minutes.
  • In case of Overdose

    The symptoms of overdose include; abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity. Consult your doctor for management of overdose.
  • Missed Dose

    In case you missed any dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember, but don't double your next dose to compensate for the missed one.
  • How To Use

    Montelukast sodium can be taken with or without food. Its tablets must be taken orally with water, chewable tablets must be taken orally and chewed.Its granules or sachet can be mixed in water or milk.
  • When Not to Use

    Montelukast sodium is contraindicated in a patient who has shown hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. Montelukast sodium is not indicated for use in acute asthma attacks including status asthmaticus.

  • Precautions & Warnings

    Caution and appropriate clinical monitoring is recommended when systemic corticosteroid reduction is considered in patients receiving Montelukast sodium . It should not be used as monotherapy for the treatment and management of exercise-induced asthma. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed under medical supervision.
  • Storage/Disposal

    Store at 25°C (Excursions permitted between 15°C to 30°C). Protect from sunlight and moisture. The expiration date refers to the product correctly stored at the required conditions.
