  • Description

    The combination of levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol is used to avoid pregnancy. It functions by preventing the full development of a woman's egg every month. The sperm can no longer enter the egg, preventing fertilization and pregnancy.

  • Uses

    This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones:

  • Dosage

    Take 1 tablet each day.

  • In case of Overdose

    Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea and vomiting, sudden/unusual vaginal bleeding. Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    Swallow the first white tablet opposite the pointing arrow of the first pack on the first day of onset of the patient's menstrual period. Follow the arrow direction and swallow one white tablet (until all 21 tablets are finished) and then swallow one brown coated tablet daily for 7 days. Do not skip any day between tablets. Take each tablet, usually at the same time each day, preferably after the evening meal. Taking it after dinner helps the patient remember to take it regularly.

  • When Not to Use

    Do not use this medication if you have:

    • Hypertension (systolic BP ≥140 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg)
    • Breast cancer
    • Known ischemic heart disease
    • Migraines with auras
    • Endometrial cancer
    • Cirrhosis (chronic liver disease)
    • Hepatocellular adenoma (benign liver lesion)
    • Malignant hepatoma (Primary liver cancer)
    • Do not use if you are pregnant
  • Side Effects

    Common side effects include:

    • Nausea, vomiting
    • Headache
    • Bloating
    • Breast tenderness
    • Swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention)
    • Weight
    • Vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting)
    • Missed/irregular periods
  • Precautions & Warnings

    You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

    • Talk to your doctor if you are lactating, and there’s no safer alternative available.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, or heart disease.
  • Drug Interactions

    This medicine may react with these drugs:

    • Aromatase inhibitors (such as anastrozole, and exemestane)
    • Fezolinetant
    • Ospemifene
    • Tamoxifen
    • Tizanidine
    • Tranexamic acid
    • Certain combination products used to treat chronic hepatitis C
  • Storage/Disposal

    Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
