Orelox (100mg) 10 Tablets

This medication is used to treat a number of bacterial infections in different body parts. It contains Cefpodoxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, which works by killing the bacteria or preventing their growth. This medicine does not work for cold, flu, and other virus infections.

Cephalosporin Antibiotics

This medication is used to treat bacterial infections in different body parts, such as:

• Infections of the respiratory tract like Pneumonia (nose, throat, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs)
• Urinary tract Infections(UTIs)
• Tonsillitis (iflammation of the tonsils)
• Sexually transmitted disease (e.g., gonorrhea)
• Acute, uncomplicated anorectal infections in women
• Ear infection (otitis media)
• Sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses)
• Bone/ joint infections

Follow these dosage instructions:

• Adults and Adolescents Dosage (12 years and older)

Take the tablet or oral suspension as per the doctor's recommendation. The daily recommended dosage is 200mg to 400mg. Only in case of skin infections, the dosage can be taken up to 800mg.

• Infants and Pediatric Dosage (Ages 2 months through 12 years)

For the pediatric population, the daily recommended dosage is 10mg.

Overdose symptoms include:

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Take this medication once daily with a glass of water, preferably with food at regular intervals as directed by the physician. If you are taking the liquid form of this medication, shake the bottle gently before use. You can use the oral suspension without regard to the food. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with:

• A known allergy to cefpodoxime to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics or to any of the excipients.
• Previous history of immediate and/or severe hypersensitivity reaction (anaphylaxis) to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotic.

Common side effects include:

• Stomach upset
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Bloating
• Diarrhea

Uncommon side effects include

• Hemolytic anemia
• Headache
• Tinnitus
• Paresthesias
• Asthenia (abnormal physical weakness)
• Fatigue and discomfort

Follow these precautions and warnings before starting the medication:

• Talk to your doctor if you have any allergic reaction or known hypersensitivity to any medicine components.
• If you are pregnant or a lactating mother, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver impairment.
• This medicine is not for the treatment of pneumonia.

This medication may interact with these drugs:

• Antacids
• Probenecid (uricosurics)
• Nephrotoxic drugs (that inhibit cyclosporin metabolism)
• Oral Anticoagulants (medicines that help prevent blood clots)

Store the medicine at room temperature (not above 30 degrees) and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
