Panadol CF (500/4/60mg) 100 Caplets

Paracetamol acts on the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that regulates body temperature. By affecting the hypothalamic heat-regulating center, it helps to lower fever. The exact mechanism of action of paracetamol is not completely understood, but it is believed to work by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), particularly COX-3, in the brain and spinal cord.Pseudoephedrine primarily acts as an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist. It stimulates alpha-1 receptors on the smooth muscles of blood vessels in the nasal passages. This stimulation causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), which reduces blood flow to the area and decreases swelling and congestion in the nasal passages. Chlorpheniramine works by blocking H1 histamine receptors in the body. Histamine is a chemical involved in allergic reactions and causes symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. By blocking these receptors, chlorpheniramine prevents histamine from binding and exerting its effects, thereby reducing allergy symptoms. By blocking muscrainic anticholinergic receptors, chlorpheniramine reduces the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for stimulating mucus production in the nasal passages.

Panadol CF dosage recommendations are:

• Take 1 to 2 caplets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 8 caplets in 24 hours.

Seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or liver toxicity (in case of paracetamol overdose). Follow medical advice.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not double up on doses.

Take caplets every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

The combination of paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, and chlorpheniramine should not be used in the following situations:

• Allergy to any of the ingredients
• Severe hypertension
• Severe coronary artery disease
• Use of MAO inhibitors
• Severe liver or kidney disease

Drug interactions with paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, and chlorpheniramine include:

• Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) (paracetamol may enhance the effect of anticoagulants)
• Alcohol (chronic use may increase the risk of liver damage from paracetamol)
• Other CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines) (chlorpheniramine may enhance CNS depression)
• MAO inhibitors (e.g., phenelzine) (pseudoephedrine may cause hypertensive crisis)
• Antihypertensives (e.g., ACE inhibitors) (pseudoephedrine may reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensives)
• Sedatives (e.g., benzodiazepines) (chlorpheniramine may enhance sedation)

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container. Dispose of unused or expired medication by returning it to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
