  • Description

Benzalkonium chloride Ointment primarily exerts its antimicrobial effect through the disruption of microbial cell membranes. The positively charged quaternary ammonium groups in benzalkonium chloride are attracted to the negatively charged components of microbial cell membranes, such as phospholipids and proteins. Upon contact, benzalkonium chloride molecules insert themselves into the cell membrane, causing it to become destabilized and leaky. This disruption compromises the integrity of the cell membrane, leading to the leakage of essential intracellular components, including ions, nutrients, and water. The cell's inability to regulate its internal environment results in microbial cell death, effectively preventing the growth and survival of microorganisms on the skin or mucous membranes.

However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule.
