  • Description

Cephradine is a bactericidal antibiotic that belongs to the cephalosporin class, similar to penicillin. It is used to treat bacterial infections by interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Cephradine inhibits the hydrolysis of acetylthreonine residues, which is essential for cell wall stability. This leads to weakened cell walls and eventual lysis of bacterial cells. It is effective against a range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, even against antibiotic-resistant strains. It can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly for systemic infections and topically for certain skin infections.

An overdose of cephradine may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and bone marrow suppression. It is imperative to treat the patient immediately by inducing vomiting and following it with lavage to remove the drug from the body. If the overdose occurs recently, give the patient activated charcoal orally. Provide respiratory support or isolate the patient if necessary, and closely monitor them for toxicity signs. Regardless of the symptoms displayed, it is crucial to seek emergency medical treatment and consult a medical professional for guidance as soon as possible.

  • Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Cephradine 250mg/5ml, it is important to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, it is recommended to skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. This is to prevent an increased risk of side effects from double dosing to make up for the missed dose. It is best to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist for guidance on missed doses as they may provide advice tailored to your personal situation.

  • How To Use

Cephradine is an antibiotic that should be taken exactly as directed by your physician. Adults and children over 2 years of age should take 10ml of the medication twice a day preferably before meals. For children under 50 kg of body weight, the dosage should be approximately 7.5 mg/kg of body weight twice daily. It is important to note that permission from a physician is required for use in children under 2 years of age. If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, you should skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Importantly, do not double the dose to catch up. If you miss several doses in a row, consult a doctor before resuming use, as sudden stopping of usage may result in an untreated bacterial infection which can lead to serious, ongoing illnesses, and permanent damage. Always consult your doctor before stopping any medication.

  • Storage/Disposal

Cephradine is a prescription medication that should be handled with care to ensure its effectiveness and safety. To start, it's important to keep the medication in its original container, preventing any transfer to other containers. This is because the container is designed to protect the medication's integrity, safeguarding it from light and moisture that could compromise its quality. Storing Cephradine at room temperature, between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), is ideal. Extreme temperatures, whether too hot or too cold, can cause the medication to break down and lose its effectiveness. Should you have excess medication or an open vial, storing it in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C can help prolong its lifespan, but it should always remain in a container to prevent moisture damage. It is crucial, however, to never freeze Cephradine, as freezing can disrupt the composition of the liquid, affecting the medication's stability. Due to the potential risks associated with Cephradine, it is vital to keep it safely stored away from the reach of children, pets, or other individuals who might accidentally consume it. Finally, it's imperative to follow the specific disposal instructions provided by your physician or healthcare provider for any unused or expired medication. These instructions may include returning the medication to a designated drug collection site or adhering to local regulations for safe disposal. By diligently adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure the safe and proper handling of Cephradine, maximizing its effectiveness and minimizing any potential risks.
