This medicine is indicated in Prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery. Treatment of DVT and pulmonary embolism. Prophylaxis of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and with at least one of the following risk factors: CHF, hypertension, previous stroke or TIA, age ? 75 yrs or diabetes mellitus. Prophylaxis of atherothrombotic events following an acute coronary syndrome with increased cardiac biomarkers (in combination with aspirin alone or aspirin and clopidogrel) -
Side Effects
Anaemia, elevated GOT and transaminases, nausea, post-procedural haemorhage Dizziness, headache, hypotension, haematoma, epistaxis, haemoptysis, GI upset, pruritus, rash, pain in extremities, fever, oedema, fatigue, asthaenia, renal impairment, raised LFTs, contusion, wound secretions serious skin reactions.

Precautions & Warnings
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with Severe renal impairment. Cirrhotic patients with moderate hepatic impairment. GI ulceration, severe hypertension, bleeding disorders and other patients with increased bleeding risk. Spinal or epidural anaesthesia, lumbar puncture.
