Nortriptyline inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine by the presynaptic neuronal membrane, thereby increasing the concentration of those neurotransmitters in the synapse.

Monitor patients for adverse reactions and consult a doctor immediately

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Swallow these pills with a glass of water. Take these as per your health care provider's instructions.

Do not use in case of:

• pregnancy or lactating
• hyperpyretic crisis
• severe convulsions
• already using MAO inhibitors

Common side effects include:

• ringing in ears
• palpitations
• weight gain or loss
• anxiety, restlessness and insomnia
• orthostatic hypotension
• headaches
• fatigue
• strange taste in mouth

Cautions include:

• Use should be withdrawn immediately if severe acute hypersensitivity occurs
