Skilax (5mg) 60 Tablets

This medicine is used to treat constipation. It contains Sodium Picosulphate, a stimulant laxative, which works by causing diarrhea to clean the colon.

Stimulant Laxatives

This medicine is used to treat constipation related to:

• Any aetiology
• Bowel clearance before surgery
• Radiological investigations

Follow these dosage instructions:

• Adult Dosage

5-10 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor will determine the length of the treatment.

• Child Dosage

The dosage for the child is strictly recommended by the doctor.

Overdose symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, imbalance of salts in the body (including low potassium), secondary hyperaldosteronism, and kidney stones. Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine and notice any of these symptoms.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Take one tablet per day, with or without food as your doctor has recommended. Swallow the tablet with water and don't chew it. Take the medication regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.

Do not use this medication if you suffer from:

• Gastric retention
• GI ulceration
• Congestive heart failure
• Rhabdomyolysis (destruction of striated muscle cells)
• Severe kidney impairment
• Ascites (abdominal swelling)
• Acute surgical abdominal conditions
• Severe dehydration
• Increased magnesium ions in the blood
• Active inflammatory bowel disease

Common side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances
• Headache
• Dry mouth
• Thirst
• Fatigue
• Sleeping disorders

You should understand these cautions before taking the medicine:

• Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
• Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
• Talk to your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or a lactating mother.
• As with all laxatives, sodium picosulfate oral solution should not be taken on a continuous daily basis for long periods.
