Telmisartan works by relaxing the blood vessels to reduce blood pressure. It blocks the hormone angiotensin-II from binding to its receptor, ultimately slowing down the rate the kidneys remove fluid from the body, decreasing overall blood volume and decreasing blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It reduces the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine, which helps lower the blood pressure.

Symptoms of overdose include chest discomfort, clammy skin, weak pulse, flushing, fainting or slow heartbeat. Consult a doctor immediately after overdose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped.

Take this medicine with a full glass of water after meals or on an empty stomach

Do not take in case of:

• pregnancy
• allergy to one or both salts
• you have diabetes and are using aliskiren

Common side effects include:

• swelling in feet and hands
• spinning sensation
• symptoms of cold and flu

Serious symptoms that require medical attention include

• high blood potassium leading to arrhythmia
• liver and heart problems

Your healthcare provider needs to know if you have any of these conditions:

• liver or kidney disease
• a heart attack
• angioedema due to another BP medicine
• vomiting or a lot of diarrhea

Drugs that can interact include:

• cyclosporine
• sildenafil
• rifampin
• ritonavir
• herbal formulations
