Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor drug that works by inhibiting secretion of gastric acid by irreversibly blocking the enzyme system of hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase, the “proton pump” of the gastric parietal cell. This drug is used in conditions, where there is a need for inhibition of gastric acid secretion like; dyspepsia, aspiration syndromes, peptic ulcer disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, and the Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.

Dose must be taken according to the doctor’s advice only; doses given below are suggested as supportive literature for better understanding in some areas of requirements. Adult dose: To treat duodenal ulcers: 20mg orally once a day before a meal. To treat duodenal ulcers with H. pylori: 20 or 40mg, orally, two or three times a day before meal. To treat H. pylori this medicine is recommended with clarithromycin or clarithromycin plus amoxicillin. Doctor will adjust the dose according to patient’s condition. To treat erosive esophagitis: 20mg one time a day before meal. To treat erosive esophagitis caused by acid-mediated GERD: 20mg one times day before meal. To treat gastric ulcers: 40mg one time a day before meal. To treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): 20mg one time a day before meal. To treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 60mg one time a day before meal. Children over 17 years of age: To treat erosive esophagitis caused by acid-mediated GERD: 20mg one time a day before meal. Child dose: To treat erosive esophagitis caused by acid-mediated GERD: For children of 1 to 16 years of age, the usual dose is 5 to 20mg one time a day before meal. Dose must be adjusted according to body weight of a child. For children of 1 month to younger than 1 year of age, the usual dose is 2.5 to 10mg one time a day before meal. Dose must be adjusted according to body weight of a child. To treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): For children of 1 year of age and older, the usual dose is 5 to 20mg one time a day before meal. Dose must be adjusted according to body weight of a child.

Over dose of this drug may cause fatigue, nausea, vomiting, headache, and liver and kidney damage. As this drug is plasma protein bound so in this case dialysis is not that useful so your doctor may recommend supportive measures.

If you miss any dose then take the dose as soon as you remember, but if it's the time for the next dose then do not double the dose.
