  • Description

Diclofenac diethylamine 1% is a topical analgesic with anti-inflammatory properties. This non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) works by blocking the release of prostaglandins, which are known to induce pain and inflammation. Specifically, diclofenac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) activity, which ordinarily facilitates the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, a precursor to prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Interestingly, diclofenac selectively inhibits COX-2, an enzyme that synthesizes prostaglandins, a mechanism that provides effective pain relief and alleviation of inflammation without oral administration.
