  • Description

    This medicine is used to treat blood clots. It contains Rivaroxaban, an anticoagulant, which binds directly to factor Xa and blocks the amplification of the coagulation cascade, preventing the formation of blood clots.

    Rivaroxaban is used to treat and prevent deep venous thrombosis (DVT), a condition in which harmful blood clots form in the blood vessels of the legs. These blood clots can travel to the lungs and can become lodged in the blood vessels of the lungs, causing a condition called pulmonary embolism (PE).

  • Dosage

    Follow these dosage instructions:

    • Adult Dosage

    10 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor will determine the length of the treatment.

    • Child Dosage

    The dosage for the child is strictly recommended by the doctor.

  • In case of Overdose

    Overdose symptoms include unusual bleeding or bruising, bloody, black, or tarry stools, blood in urine, coughing up or vomiting blood, or material that looks like coffee grounds. Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine and notice any of these symptoms.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    Take one tablet per day, with or without food as your doctor has recommended. Swallow the tablet with water and don't chew it. Take the medication regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.

  • When Not to Use

    This medicine is contraindicated in these situations:

    • Pregnancy and lactation
    • Patients with creatinine clearance <15ml/min, clinically significant active bleeding, liver disease associated with coagulopathy (impaired blood coagulation), and hip fracture surgery.
  • Side Effects

    Common side effects include:

    • A very severe headache.
    • A seizure or fit.
    • Sudden loss of vision or blurred vision.
    • Numbness or tingling in your arms or legs.
  • Precautions & Warnings

    You should understand these cautions before taking the medicine:

    • Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
    • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, cirrhosis (healthy liver tissue replaced by scarred tissue), GI ulceration (break in the continuity of GI lining), hypertension (high BP), and bleeding disorders.
    • Don’t drink alcohol and don’t drive while taking this medication.
  • Drug Interactions

    This medicine should not be used with:

    • Any other anticoagulants, such as warfarin or enoxaparin.
    • Medicines to treat fungal or bacterial infections, such as fluconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, or rifampicin.
    • Medicines to treat HIV, such as ritonavir.
    • Medicines to treat epilepsy, such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbital.
  • Food Interaction

    Large amounts of garlic, ginger, glucosamine (an amino sugar), ginseng, and ginkgo should be avoided while on anticoagulant medications as they may increase the risk of bleeding.

    Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
