  • Description

Loratadine is a long-acting, selective competitive histamine H1-receptor antagonist, effective in reducing systemic histamine effects. This effectiveness is due to its relative affinity for the histamine H1 receptor, a property that also accounts for its selective action in the treatment of allergic reactions, and its lower incidence of sedative properties when compared to previous anti-histamine treatments. Administration of Loratadine is indicated for persistent, inflammatory, and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, urticaria, and other allergic conditions including lichen simplex chronicus, pruritus, and other skin conditions. It also is indicated for allergic reactions to blood or plasma. Like other second-generation H1 antagonists, loratadine has a selective for the H1 receptor over other types of receptors, which may explain its lack of sedative effects and its low incidence of interactions with other drugs. The antihistaminic activity of loratadine is approximately 12 times greater than that of terfenadine, and its absolute bioavailability is approximately 40%. Loratadine is rapidly and extensively metabolized in the liver, with a plasma elimination half-life of about 10 hours.

Loratadine is an antihistamine prescription used to treat allergies. This medication is generally safe and effective when taken as prescribed, but it can lead to serious side effects in the case of an overdose. In these cases, the focus should be on supporting the individual by treating the symptoms associated with the overdose. These symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, as well as severe allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the lips, tongue, or face. If an overdose is suspected, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. The medical provider will evaluate the situation and determine the best course of treatment. This may include inducing vomiting, administering certain medications to address the symptoms, and providing supportive care to manage any severe symptoms. They may also identify any potential complications related to the overdose and take proactive measures to mitigate these complications.

  • Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Loratadine 5mg/5ml, it is important to take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, it is best to skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. This is to ensure that you do not take a double dose, as this can be harmful. If you have any further questions or concerns about missing a dose of Loratadine, it is advised to speak with your physician or a local pharmacist for more information and personalized advice.

  • How To Use

Before starting to take Loratadine, it is important to understand how to properly take the medication. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist. Loratadine is taken by mouth, usually combined with other drugs as directed by your doctor, and can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with food may help if you experience stomach upset. The usual adult dosage is 10 mg (two teaspoons) or 5 mg (one teaspoon) per day. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully. This medication should be taken regularly to ensure the best results and you should take it at the same time each day to help remember to take it. Even if you feel better, don't stop taking the medication until you have completed the full course of treatment as directed by your doctor. If you are unsure about anything related to your medication, consult your doctor for more guidance. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and if an overdose occurs, seek immediate medical attention. Loratadine is an antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and a runny nose. It is essential to follow specific storage instructions to ensure the medication remains effective and safe to use. To properly store Loratadine, it should be kept out of the reach of children in a cool, dry place. Ensuring the medication is protected from heat, moisture, and direct light is essential to prevent degradation or contamination of the drug. Additionally, Loratadine should be stored in its original container, with the lid or cap tightly closed when not in use.
