Poor dental hygiene can lead to problems like cavities, sensitive teeth, and even advanced gum disease. But most dental problems can be easily avoided with good oral hygiene and regular checkups. In the end, healthy teeth for a healthy life is our ultimate goal.

Oral health problems can be very hard on a person’s health, relationships, and well-being as a whole. Even so, many people don’t think that oral and dental health is very important.  The Pakistan Journal Association says that most adults and more than half of children have tooth decay. Over 80% of people over 45 have dental problems, and more than 20% of people over 60 have no teeth. Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Dental Problems

An infection, or abscess, at the tip or side of a tooth’s root can be caused by tooth decay, cavities that haven’t been taken care of, recent dental work, or an injury.

Dental infections can be quite distressing, and if they aren’t treated by a doctor, the bacteria can spread to the gums, bone, and even the eyes.

Talk to a dentist or doctor if you think you have a tooth infection. They can figure out what’s wrong and give you the right treatment.

For example, if you have a bacterial infection in your mouth, your dentist or doctor may treat it with an antibiotic like amoxicillin or cephalexin and pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen that you can buy over-the-counter.

How to Treat Common Dental Problems

You may also need dental work, like a root canal, to stop the infection and stop it from spreading to your gums and mouth.

But if you are feeling tooth ache and wants braces pain relief and can’t get to a doctor or dentist right away, there are home remedies for a tooth infection that can help with the pain and stop the infection from spreading. In some cases, your doctor may also suggest things you can do at home to ease your pain while they treat you.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a safe, effective, and cheap way to get rid of bacteria in your mouth and relieve pain in your gums. You can use this common item in your kitchen to help your oral health in a few ways, such as to treat a tooth infection at home.

First, you can try mixing baking soda and water into a paste and putting it on your gums. This method works best when the sore is on the side of your tooth or on your gums.

If your tooth infection is inside or on top of your tooth, you can make a baking soda rinse by mixing a half tablespoon of baking soda, a half cup of water, and a pinch of table salt. Swish the solution around in your mouth for a few minutes, then spit it out and do it again until you’ve used up all of the mixtures.

Salt Water

Salt is another important thing to have in your cupboards. Studies reveal that salt’s role in infection control. It is a natural antiseptic, so it can be used to treat a tooth infection.

Salt kills bacteria, but rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater can also get rid of particles, break up fluid around a tooth, and help a wound heal properly.

Mix a half teaspoon of salt with a half cup of warm tap water to make a saltwater rinse for a tooth infection. Swish it around in your mouth for two or three minutes, then spit it out and do it again if you need to.

Garlic

Garlic is often used to treat infections because it kills germs. This common cooking ingredient has a chemical called allicin that kills bacteria, according to research. Garlic may also help with tooth infection pain.

But eating garlicky foods won’t be enough. To use garlic’s ability to kill bacteria, crush a fresh clove to make a paste. A few times a day, put the paste on the area that hurts. You can also peel a clove of garlic and gently bite down on it with the tooth that hurts for a few minutes to relieve pain and stop bacteria from growing.

Alcohol

If you have an infection, you shouldn’t drink too much because alcohol can weaken your immune system.

But alcoholic drinks like whiskey, scotch, or vodka can help stop the pain if they are put directly on the infected tooth. This is because they have anesthetic properties.

Soak a cotton ball in the hard alcohol and put it on the area that hurts. Remember that alcohol won’t kill enough bacteria to get rid of your infection, but it may help for a while. You shouldn’t use alcohol to treat a tooth infection in a child.

Tea Made From Fenugreek

The antibacterial properties of the Mediterranean herb fenugreek make it a common home remedy.

You might be able to buy fenugreek tea bags to drink, but you can also make a strong solution to put on the infected tooth for even more relief.

Add one teaspoon of ground fenugreek to a cup of boiling water. Once the tea has cooled, dip a cotton ball in it and apply it to the painful area as needed.

Essential Oils

There are many health benefits of essential oils. Essential oils are the distilled essence of a plant. Many people use them to ease everyday aches and pains. Some essential oils are antibacterial, which means they could help with a tooth infection.

Oregano: It has been found that the oil from this herb kills bacteria.

Clove oil: Scientists have found that the oil from this cooking spice kills bacteria and reduces inflammation. If you can’t find clove essential oil, you can also numb the pain with dried cloves from your pantry. Just put a clove in your mouth between the painful tooth and your cheek for a few minutes.

Thyme oil is also antibacterial, and thyme is a common herb used in cooking.

Frankincense oil: This oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help with rheumatism, bronchitis, and other conditions. It has also been used to help with toothache.

To use an essential oil on a tooth infection, soak a cotton ball or cotton swab in a carrier oil, like coconut oil, and then add a drop or two of the essential oil. Rub the mixture right on the sore spot on your gums to feel better.

Be careful not to swallow essential oil if you use it in your mouth, especially if you use a lot of it. Doing so could hurt your liver.

Things You Should Consider

Even though these home remedies can help ease the pain of a tooth infection, they won’t cure the infection on their own.

Remember that dental problems can cause serious health problems if they are not treated. If you think you have an infection in your tooth, you should see a doctor or dentist right away, or talk to a  doctor, to find out what’s wrong.

Your provider can treat your infection and also help you feel less pain. You should also see a doctor if antibiotics are being used to treat your infection but your symptoms aren’t getting better or are getting worse. And if you have a tooth infection, fever, chills, confusion, or a fast heart please book your appointment with your specialist.
