Panadol (80mg/0.8ml) 30ml Infant Drops

Paracetamol acts on the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that regulates body temperature. By affecting the hypothalamic heat-regulating center, it helps to lower fever. The exact mechanism of action of paracetamol is not completely understood, but it is believed to work by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), particularly COX-3, in the brain and spinal cord.

This medicine is used to treat:

• Pain
• Fever

Paracetamol dosage recommendations are:

• Post-immunisation pyrexia - 60 mg for children 2-4 months. May give a 2nd dose of 60 mg after 4-6 hours if needed. Max - 240mg daily.
• Fever, Mild to moderate pain - For adults - 500-1,000 mg 4-6 hourly as needed. Max - 4,000 mg daily. For children - 3-5 months 60 mg, 6-23 months 120 mg, 2-3 years 180 mg, 4-5 years 240 mg, 6-7 years 240-250 mg, 8-9 years 360-375 mg, 10-11 years 480-500 mg, 12-15 years 480-750 mg, 16-17 years 500-1,000 mg. Doses are given 4-6 hourly as needed. Max - 4 doses daily.

If your child takes too much of this medicine, or if they take other paracetamol-containing medicines by mistake, you should take them to your doctor or hospital immediately, even if they feel well, because of the risk of delayed serious liver damage.

If you miss a dose give it as soon as you remember and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced times. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

It is essential to shake the bottle for at least 10 seconds before use. Avoid overfilling the spoon. Always use the spoon provided with the pack. Additionally, do not give the medicine alongside any other products that contain paracetamol.

Do not give Paracetamol Infant Drops if your child:

• Is taking any other paracetamol-containing products
• Is using other flu, cold, cough, or decongestant products
• Is consuming alcohol
• Is allergic (hypersensitive) to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients

The side effects of Paracetaml Drops are as follows:

• Gastrointestinal discomfort
• Allergic reactions
• Skin rash
• Drowsiness

Here are some important precautions and warnings that patients should be aware of:

• Patients with G6PD deficiency should take special care when using the medication.
• Individuals with chronic alcoholism or malnutrition require close monitoring.
• Dehydrated patients or those with severe hypovolemia (especially with IV administration) should be carefully evaluated.
• Caution is advised for patients with renal and hepatic impairment.
• Extra care should be taken for neonates and children during treatment.
• Special precautions are necessary during pregnancy and lactation.

Drug interactions with paracetamol include:

• Alcohol (chronic use may increase the risk of liver damage)
• Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) (may enhance anticoagulant effect and increase bleeding risk)
• Other hepatotoxic drugs (e.g., isoniazid) (may increase the risk of liver damage)
• Carbamazepine (may increase the metabolism of paracetamol and reduce efficacy)
• Phenytoin (may increase the metabolism of paracetamol).

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container. Dispose of unused or expired medication by returning it to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
