What is an Echo Test?

An echocardiogram is a graphic representation of the heart’s movement. During this test with the help of ultrasound waves, pictures of the heart and its valves are produced. With the help of a sonographer, the pumping action of the heart is also recorded. The whole procedure of this test takes about 40 minutes to complete.

The doctor will recommend you this test under the following conditions:

  • To assess the overall function of the heart
  • To diagnose any underlying heart issues, valve diseases, myocardial disease, pericardial disease, infective endocarditis, and congenital heart problems.
  • To monitor the progress or spread of the disease

What Happens During Echo Test?

The healthcare provider will explain the whole procedure to the patient. They will then take you inside the lab. A cardiac sonographer will then place three electrodes on your chest. These electrodes are then attached to an EKG monitor that will show your heart’s electrical activity during the testing process.

The patient is not able to hear the sounds during the test. In order to get clearer pictures, the sonographer might ask you to change positions every once in a while.
