Lahore General Hospital is one of the oldest and most privileged hospitals certified by PMC. Its foundation was laid down by Begum Naheed Sikandar Mirza W/O Governor-General of Pakistan on 27-02-5. The first phase of the opening ceremony of the building was held on 30-09-1958.

In 1966 departments of Neurosurgery at King Edward Medical College were set in Lahore General Hospital. Lahore General Hospital was affiliated with Postgraduate Medical Institute in 1975. In 1995 when the Allama Iqbal Medical College shifted to the new campus Lahore General Hospital became attached to AIMC. Currently, all the departments of Lahore General Hospital are affiliated with PGMI Lahore.

Dr. Sabiha Khurshid Ahmad was appointed as the 1st Chief Executive of Lahore General Hospital. After the autonomy, new well-equipped operation theaters of urology and orthopedic were started which helped to lower the huge burden of SOT. The Hospital further expanded seven rooms for private patients on the general side in addition to eighteen rooms in the Neurosurgery Department.

Lahore General Hospital is divided into 24 basic and clinic departments. Recently they have also equipped 49 advanced automated equipment and also have a COVID-19 RT-PCR testing lab. In addition to all this Lahore General Hospital also has a Central Sterile Supplies Department.
