Islamabad: NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) signed a deal with the health ministry in which your CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) will be now used as a health card.

The signing ceremony was held in Islamabad. The agreement was signed between NADRA and the Federal Ministry of Health alongside Punjab Health Initiative Management Company. As per the agreement, NADRA will now act as the “centralized information management system” for the Sehat Sahulat Programme making processes more convenient.

Previously, Sehat Insaf Card users were eligible for free treatment in listed hospitals across Punjab with Sehat Card. After this agreement, all the eligible families will be getting free treatment by using their Nation Identity Card.

Other than this NADRA will also assist with the process of data verification which includes the following details:

  • Family composition
  • CNIC
  • Call center service center
  • Provision of centralized management information system
  • Data Hosting
  • Allied services
  • Hospital services module.

This will ensure the best infrastructure for the health reforms, said Tariq Malik, NADRA Chairman. He also reminded us that previously NADRA digitized the World Bank’s survey for determining poverty scores in Pakistan. It was linked with the biometric database alongside providing assistance for compiling a database to determine the poverty rate.

Tariq Malik also said that through this program NADRA will provide the healthcare facility to 26.3 million families including the 85 million population under the universal coverage in Punjab. During the early phase of the program, unprivileged people from 25 districts across Punjab including 11 districts of Lahore will be eligible to get healthcare facilities through Sehat Sahulat Programme.

Before this agreement, nearly 1.6 million people had benefited from the federal government.
